Important Certificate of Merit Details

As we are getting closer to certificate of merit evaluations I want to bring to your attention timelines and details regarding the process.

  • Students should be prepared to video their scales and etudes (etudes are for level 4 and above) before the end of the year and upload them to their MTAC portal. Scales must be memorized and up to the minimum tempo marked on their scale sheet. Etudes do not need to be memorized.
  • Students should be working regularly in their theory book and studying the final reviews.
  • Practice tests for theory and sight reading are available in your MTAC portal. Students should be logging in and taking their practice tests.
  • Students need to be prepared to meet with the pianist in February to record their songs. One of their songs must be memorized. Ideally, both should be memorized for a better score.
  • The pianists already have the piano parts for your students repertoire. I will forward their contact information as we get closer so you can schedule your time with them. Parents are responsible for recording performances and uploading to the MTAC portal. Parents are also responsible for paying the pianist directly.
  • All videos must be uploaded and theory and sight-reading tests completed by March 11th. I do not recommend waiting until the deadline to complete items. If there are any problems, computer glitches, etc., there is no time to take care of issues and the material will not be evaluated. All videos should be uploaded by the end of February so that students can focus on their theory and sight-reading.
  • Please carefully review the resource section in your MTAC portal. You will need to print out the official recording cover sheet and show at the beginning of all video recordings. Be sure to review the video recording guidelines.

Thank you for reading this information and for supporting and encouraging your student so that they have the best possible outcome. Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Ms. Jill
